John Martino
John served 10 years as a Firefighter with the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department (GCVFD), which was founded in 1837 in Long Island, New York. He was trained at the Nassau County Fire Academy, attending training on his own personal time, while working full time. John qualified for several roles, including that of Chauffeur and Pump Operator, and Operator for the Rescue Squad; he also qualified as Chauffeur for Glen Cove Volunteer Emergency Medical Services Corp. With the GCVFD he assisted with or responded to countless calls at all times of the day or night, including during blizzards, hurricanes, and nor Easters and to Avianca Flight 52 disaster—the ill-fated Boing 707 which crashed in Long Island.
John is a civic-oriented individual who over the years has volunteered in his community assisting at blood drives, holiday food drives, and with the Toys For Tots campaign.
